As a teacher, I have always done everything within my power to set my students up for success.  Academically and also for life in general.  I have always been a go getter.  A hard worker.  Someone who put in every ounce of effort for the now.  Living life in the moment.  It wasn't until I was married with two children that I started seeing the extreme value in planning for the future.  The necessity of ultimately providing for my beautiful family in the event that I was no longer here with my go getter attitude.  What would my wife do? How would the mortgage get paid? What about my final expenses? College for the kids?
